Stop immediately and as close to the location of the accident as possible.
The law requires it.
- Check for injured persons.
- If necessary, call 911.
- Do NOT move the injured person.
Warn approaching vehicles with emergency flashers, flares, reflectors, or even a flashlight.
Notify the police, county or state law enforcement at once. This is the law, and the official report may be helpful later.
Do not comment on the accident.
Keep notes and information to yourself. Admit nothing and sign nothing; never volunteer information.
 Remain at the scene until the officer arrives. Co-operate by providing the officer with essential information. No one can force
you to give an opinion. Any statement you make may be used as an admission. You have the right to consult a lawyer.
Obtain the other driver’s name, address, and vehicle registration number. Ask to see the driver’s license. Note the number on the Accident Form for Vehicle.
Obtain names and addresses of any and all witnesses. Ask witnesses to sign a statement concerning the accident. (Keep a pen and pad handy)
 Download and print our helpful Accident Form for Vehicle to keep in your glove compartment in case of an emergency. Make your own notes on all significant circumstances. Step off exact distances of skid marks and other important distances. Be certain that you can later point out where the vehicles collided and stopped. If possible, take pictures to preserve skid marks, position of cars and other physical evidence that will disappear.
Arrest of you or the other party does not necessarily indicate liability. It is not ordinarily used in a damage suit.
Unless injuries compel you to do otherwise, do not leave the scene of the accident until you have completed the previously outlined procedures.
Serious and costly injuries don’t always result in immediate pain or bloodshed. A thorough examination by chiropractic doctor is a wise precaution to determine the presence or absence of “hidden” injuries. Chiropractors are well qualified to detect and treat a wide variety of injuries of the spine, nerves and other related structures. Auto medical insurance will normally pay for chiropractic treatments and massage therapy (when performed in a chiropractic office). There is NO increase in auto premiums for the use of the medical portion of your policy.
Make a complete report to your insurance company. Failure to do so may affect your rights.
